    • Spencer and Meley[Emaline] Atkins were living in Lamar County[then Fayette], Alabama, in 1850. Spencer was 56 and Meley was 50,according to the census that year.They had 2 children in the household. Both had been born in Mississippi, which indicates the Atkins family had recently moved from that state. As a matter of fact, Spencer and Meley lived in the Vails/Trulls Beat area, near Melborne. By 1870, [an error] Spencer had died and Meley, listed as 85 in the census, was living with their son, Joel Atkins. In 1864, Spencer owned 240 acrea of land in Trulls Beat, valued at $1,500. He was active in his community. In 1876 he served as overseer on the Pinhook Road. Seeing these facts about dates, I believe He died abt. 1878.
